About KQ

Who we are

Founded in 2017 and based in Uganda, KQ Hub Africa is an independent Pan-African arts, media and culture institution working where creative experimentation, cultural intelligence, artivism and social transformation meet.

At the heart of our work

Artivism

Artivism is where artistic expression meets activism: a way of engaging society, questioning established realities and advancing social change.

We do not see it as art used to carry a message. We see it as a creative, participatory practice through which people interrogate power, make overlooked experiences visible, challenge dominant narratives, build solidarity and imagine alternative futures.

Why now

The challenges demand more than conventional solutions

Conflict, democratic uncertainty, climate change, inequality, forced migration, technological disruption and the erosion of civic freedoms all call for new forms of imagination, dialogue and collective engagement.

Arts and culture offer vital space for this work. They let societies explore difficult questions, encounter other perspectives, process shared experiences and envision what may not yet exist. Through artivism, we bring creative expression into conversation with civic action, public discourse, community knowledge and institutional change.

Artists, cultural practitioners, young people, researchers, activists, communities, civil society organisations and institutions, exploring how creativity and cultural practice can contribute to more just, inclusive, democratic and sustainable societies.

We harness the imaginative, convening and transformative power of arts, media and culture to take on complex societal challenges, generate new knowledge, shape public consciousness and inspire collective action.
